William George URIDGE1

     William George URIDGE was born in 1838 in Troy Town, St. Margarets, Rochester, Kent.1,2 He was the son of Charlotte URIDGE.2,3 As of July 1877, William George URIDGE lived at Pooncarie, New South Wales, Australia. In the New South Wales Police Gazette - 15 Aug 1877 Page 268, it was reported that
"On the 16th July last, the remains of a man were found in the bush about 14 miles from Pooncarie by Mr. William Uridge, who reported the occurrence to the Pooncarie Police. No Magisterial enquiry was held. deceased is supposed to have been lost in the bush about sixteen months ago, and to have perished for want of water. description: About 50 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair; dressed in moleskin trousers, flannel shirt, and drawers, cotton shirt, lace-up boots, gray woollen socks, and white soft felt hat, a pocket-knife, match-box, and purse, were found on deceased. Two cans, one padlock, and one pannikin, were found near the deceased."4
William was a Blacksmith in 1882 at Goorimpa (middle of Australia), Wilcannia, New South Wales, Australia.
William died on 1 December 1882; No death registered in Australia, or England.5
His estate was probated to Charlotte URIDGE in 1885; Letters of Administration. Probate granted to Mrs Charlotte LANE in England, who was described as his mother. It is assumed that Charlotte URIDGE, took her mother's maiden name of LANE.5

Ann URIDGE was baptised on 27 December 1839 at St. Bartholomews, Sydenham, Kent.4,2,5 She was the daughter of John URIDGE and Sarah DROVER.6,3 In the census of 30 March 1851 at 34 Wells Road, Sydenham, Kent, she was listed as the daughter of John URIDGE; a Bricklayer's Labourer, living with his wife Sarah, and children Ann, William, Richard, Thomas, Ellen, and Jane Anne.3
Ann married James Augustus GOSLING in 1858.7,8
She was named as a beneficiary in William URIDGE's will made on 20 June 1888.9


In a document dated c1905, she is referred to as "(dead) became Mrs Gosling and left one son and four daughters 1. James John Gosling 33 Dallas Rd Sydenham 2. Annie Paul 33 Dryden Rd South Wimbledon 3. Ellen Ball 62 Couper Rd South Wimbledon 4. Elizabeth Sarah Paul same address 5. Caroline Gosling address with papers all have been seen.10"

     George Robert URIDGE was born on 10 August 1841 in the Isle of Grain, Kent.3,2,4 He was the son of Philip URIDGE and Sarah BARTON.5,6 He was baptised on 12 September 1841 at St. James' Church, Isle of Grain, Kent.1
In the census of 30 March 1851 at Perry's Farm, St. James, Isle of Grain, Kent, he was listed as aged 10 born in (St. James) Grain, the son of Phillip URIDGE.7
George emigrated with his parents and siblings on 26 May 1851 to New York City, New York State, USA. He was listed incorrectly as George WRIDGE aged 9 from Ireland.8
George married Julia Caroline TREMAINE on 27 August 1867 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, USA.2,9,10
He was listed in the census of 1880 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, USA.11
George was in a Uridge & Fawcett Family photograph taken in September 1903. The Fawcett family are on the left and the Uridge family on the right.12,13

In the census of 7 April 1861 at 3 Upper Brook Mews, Paddington, London, he was listed as a Coachman, aged 18 born in Marylebone Middlesex, the son of George URIDGE.5
In the census of 2 April 1871 at 1 Westbury Terrace, Harrow Road, Paddington, London, he was listed as a Coach Body Maker, aged 28 born in Marylebone, the son of Ann URIDGE.8

     Richard URIDGE was born on 28 December 1842 in Sydenham, Kent. Richard was the twin brother of William.1,2,3,4 He was the son of John URIDGE and Sarah DROVER.2 He was baptised on 5 March 1843 at St. Mary's Church, Lewisham, London.5,4,6 In the census of 30 March 1851 at 34 Wells Road, Sydenham, Kent, he was listed as the son of John URIDGE; a Bricklayer's Labourer, living with his wife Sarah, and children Ann, William, Richard, Thomas, Ellen, and Jane Anne.2
In the census of 7 April 1861 at Prospect Place (Off Wells Road), Sydenham, Kent, he was listed as a Labourer, and the son of John URIDGE.7
Richard married Emma Marie WHITAKER in 1886 in Lewisham, London.8
He was named as a beneficiary in William URIDGE's will made on 20 June 1888.9 In the census of 5 April 1891 at Perry Rise, Perry Terrace, Lewisham, London, Richard was listed as aged 48 born in Sydenham Kent, the Head of Household; a General Labourer, living with his wife Emma and young daughters Ethel E., and Emily.10
Richard's death was registered in 1898 in the Lewisham registration district.11,5
In a document dated c1905, he is referred to as "(dead) left Widow and children (infants) who all reside at 5a Raglan Street, Forest Hill, London represented by R. Metchin Solicitor.12"
