Research Note: Although the 1861 census shows Martha being born in in 1848, so far there is no trace of her, either in GRO Indexes or censuses. This is thought to be an error on the 1861 enumerator, and could be that a Martha was their servant.3

     Thomas Richards REES was born on 8 March 1861 in Dame Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.1,2 He was the son of David REES and Mary RICHARDS.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 at 152 Dame Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, he was listed as 1 month born in Carmarthen, the son of David REES.3
He was listed in the census of 7 April 1861 at 152 Dame Street, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.4 In the census of 2 April 1871 at Chequers Alley, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, he was listed as a Shoemaker'sw Apprentice, aged 10 born in St. Peters Carmarthen, the step-son of Daniel HOWELLS.5
He was described in his Army records as 5 foot 7 inches with fair hair, and blue eyes. His paybook lists him in 1st/10 foot Infantry. He was transferred on 1 May 1880 to D.I.R.A at his own request. His army number when he served in the 5th Field Battery Royal Field Artillery was 14236.6,7,8
Thomas married Helen PERCIRA, daughter of Robert BLOFELD, on 19 January 1892 at 5th Field Battery RA, St. Thomas Mount, Madras, India. Thomas adopted Helen and John's son Percy.6,9,10,11,12 Thomas was in an undated photograph taken in India.8 Thomas ended his military service in 1899.6 He was listed as aged 42, the Head of Household in the census of 31 March 1901 at Scoveston Fort, Llanstadwell, Pembrokeshire, a Caretaker, living with his wife and son. Scoveston Fort is about one and a half miles to the North West of Neyland on the north bank of the Milford Haven waterway in Pembrokshire. It was built about 1861-64, and today is empty and overgrown. In 1914 for a few days the Welsh/Welch Regiment used the fort as its War Station. Research Note: Vincent wrote: "After speaking with Auntie Joan, when Thomas Rees came out of the Army and spent some time in west Wales, he couldn't settle, they then went back to Bangalore, where he worked in the Mines, one of my uncles has some old Indian postcards from this era from the Rees's of these. Helen was informed in the middle of the night Thomas had died through an accident where he had been caught in machinery, that's all we know, later on she then returned to Wales as she had contract Berri Berri.15"

     Simeon VAISEY was born in 1842 in Leighton, Cloford, Somerset.1 He was the son of Richard VAISEY and Elizabeth VAISEY née ?1 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Leighton, Cloford, Somerset, he was listed as aged 9 born in Leighton, the son of Richard VAISEY.1
