The inquest of his death was reported in the Shepton Mallet Journal, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, on 4 August 1944.2

THE INQUEST.
Mr. C. Leslie Rutter, the Coroner for South- East Somerset, sharply criticised the action of a 36-years-old motor-cyclist, Arthur Ernest Veasey, of Myrtle Cottage, Westcombe, at the inquest held Shepton Mallet on Friday.
Evidence was given that the deceased was returning from Wanstrow his home at about 11 p.m., on Thursday, last week, riding a pedal cycle. He was being pulled along by his brother, who was riding a motor-cycle, by holding his shoulder. Another pedal cyclist, Anthony William Glacee, of The Beaches, Batcombe Lodge, was holding the other shoulder of the motor cyclist. The latter released his hold near his home at Batcombe, and shortly afterwards the deceased also lost his grip, for no apparent reason. The motor cyclist, turning round saw his brother crash to the ground, receiving severe head injuries. He was attended on the scene by Dr. Brodie, and later removed to the Shepton Mallet District Hospital, where he died the following morning at 8 o'clock.
Replying to questions, the motor-cyclist said he could not account for his brother releasing his hold. They were only travelling slowly, at about 25 miles per hour.
Dr. D. Brodie (Evercreech) said the cause of death was compression of the brain due to internal cerebral hemorhage, resulting from the fall.
Returning a verdict of ''Death by Misadventure" the Coroner said the motor cyclist and the other lads showed an utter lack of responsibility and certainly a lack of citizenship, as well a complete lack of regard for other users of the road. He described their action as a most dangerous and foolish practise.2
