Reginald Charles Euridge c1937
(1921-1958)
Reginald was also known as Red EURIDGE.1
Reginald Charles EURIDGE was born on 7 September 1921 in 45 Henry Street, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.3,4,5 He was the son of William Harry EURIDGE and Emily Ann HARPER.4,5,6
Reginald finished his education in 1936 at Broadway Central School, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire.7 He left school and joined the Royal Marines. He spent most of his life in the Marines, serving during and after the war, attaining the rank of Colour Sergeant.8

In 1940, Reginald and Kathleen met on Weymouth railway station. Kathleen had dropped her suitcase and the contents had spilled onto the platform, and he helped her to pick them up.9
Reginald married Kathleen Hilda VEASEY, daughter of Herbert VEASEY and Margaret Jane REES, on 29 September 1941 in Yeovil Registry Office, Yeovil, Somerset.10,9 In 1946, Reginald and Kathleen moved to the Nissan Huts in Preston Road, Yeovil, Somerset.11 He was the informant on the birth certificate of his daughter Teresa, who was born on 5 August 1949 at 18 Chelston Avenue, Yeovil, Somerset.12,13

In 1953, Reginald and Kathleen and their family of eight children moved to Malta. Initially they lived at Nemo, Carmel Street, Barkara, Malta.14 In November, they moved to 26 St. Georges Bay, St. Georges Bay, Malta.14
Reginald and Kay EURIDGE immigrated to "Briar Hill", Shutterton Lane, Dawlish Warren, Devon, In late 1953, Kay suffered from ill health and the family had to return to England. As several of the children had been really ill on the flight out to Malta, they sailed on the ship 'Lancashire', arriving in Liverpool on 13 February 1954. They then travelled by train to their new home at "Briar Hill", Shutterton Lane, Dawlish Warren, Devon.15,16

The family soon integrated into the community. They established a youth club in the village hall, and Red worked in the evenings at the Mount Pleasant Inn. The older children of the family were very enterprising and in exchange for a small tip would carry the luggage of holiday makers, who in those days arrived in their thousands by train. By the end of the summer of 1954 they were the envy of their friends as the money saved purchased the family's first black and white television.1
Reginald died in a scooter accident on 23 December 1958 in Cockwood, Starcross, Devon, at the age of 37.17,18,1 He was buried on 27 December 1958 at Cofton Parish Church, Cockwood, Starcross, Devon.1

Kathleen Hilda VEASEY1

Kathleen "Kay" Hilda Euridge
née Veasey
25 July 1924 - 5 July 2011
Hilda Kathleen VEASEY was born on 25 July 1924 in 5 Cambrian Place, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.2,3,4 She was the daughter of Herbert VEASEY and Margaret Jane REES.2 At the time of her birth registration on 25 August 1924, she lived with her parents Herbert and Margaret at 5 Cambrian Place, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire.2
In 1927 the family moved to The Green, Stoford, Yeovil, Somerset. The house still remains and is now called "Little Charters". The farm at the corner of the green was owned by Mr Fry. At the left-hand corner of the row of houses was a small general store. The house still remains, however the shop window has been bricked up.5

In Stoford village, there is a small stream with a very picturesque bridge that leads to the adjoining village of Clifton Maybank. My mother recalls that she would ice skate on the stream when it was frozen. One day at the top of hill in Clifton Maybank, an airship landed. There was great excitement in the village and everyone rushed up to see it.5
The Wesleyan Methodist chapel, where they worshipped three times on a Sunday, is still standing but no longer used. My mother recalls that they would go to Weymouth on the annual Sunday School outing. Her mother would dress her in finery, complete with matching shoes.5
Kathleen was educated at Barwick & Stoford School, Barwick, Somerset. She can remember having a King George V Jubilee mug given to her when she was at Barwick school.6

Kathleen remembers that they had a big radio and they would sit round and listen to it. One day the local builder's daughter Betty Guppy had birthday wishes read out on the Ovaltinees show and my mother heard it, and the next day Betty, who was in her class at school, was held in great awe by all the children at the school.5

When war was declared, on 3 September 1939 Kathleen was living with her sister Nora at Sherbourne Road, Yeovil, Somerset.7
On 29 September 1939, in the 1939 National Register, Kathleen was living with her parents in 20 Barnet Close, Yeovil, Somerset. It was stated she was born on 26 July 1923, and her occupation was an Aircraft Canteen Worker. Her date of birth was possibly incorrectly stated as she was too young to work?8

In 1940, Kathleen and Reginald met on Weymouth railway station. Kathleen had dropped her suitcase and the contents had spilled onto the platform, and he helped her to pick them up.6
Kathleen married Reginald Charles EURIDGE, son of William Harry EURIDGE and Emily Ann HARPER, on 29 September 1941 in Yeovil Registry Office, Yeovil, Somerset.9,6 Kathleen was given the nickname of Kay, by Red, who didn't like the name Kathleen. After that, she was always called "Kay".10 As of 1941, Kathleen was living with her parents Herbert and Margaret at 20 Barnet Close, Yeovil, Somerset.10 In 1946, Kathleen and Reginald moved to the Nissan Huts in Preston Road, Yeovil, Somerset.7

In 1953, Kathleen and Reginald and their family of eight children moved to Malta. Initially they lived at Nemo, Carmel Street, Barkara, Malta.11
Just after their arrival in Malta, on the day of the Queen's coronation, the family watched the event on television. It was either in the house, or in a neighbour's house. The children received a Coronation mug from the school in Yeovil, just prior to their departure to Malta.11 In November, they moved to 26 St. Georges Bay, St. Georges Bay, Malta.11
In late 1953, Kay suffered from ill health and the family had to return to England. As several of the children had been really ill on the flight out to Malta, they sailed on the ship 'Lancashire', arriving in Liverpool on 13 February 1954. They then travelled by train to their new home at "Briar Hill", Shutterton Lane, Dawlish Warren, Devon.12,13

Her mother, Margaret, died on 27 June 1958 at 50 Little Sammons, Chilthorne Domer, Somerset; The cause of death was:
a) Uraemia;
b) Chronic Interstitial Nephritis and
c) Old Age.
In layman's terms this means kidney failure.14,15

Kathleen described her mother as beautiful, always smartly dressed, and adored by her husband. She was extremely houseproud and very hardworking. However, she was devoutly religious, and saw Kay's birth as the "Wrath of God", as it was late in her life after her older children had grown up married and left home, and she subsequently took solace in drink.10
After her mother's death, her father came to live with them at "Briar Hill", Shutterton Lane, Dawlish Warren, Devon.6

Tragically, Kay's husband Reginald was killed in a motor scooter accident two days before Christmas on 23 December 1958 at Cockwood, Starcross, Devon, leaving her a widow with nine children, at the age of 34.16,17,1
Her husband, Reginald's estate was probated to her on 3 March 1959 in Exeter, Devon.17

Between March 1959 and 1994 Kay, and her family, lived at 16 Third Avenue, Dawlish, Devon.1
On 28 June 1969 Kathleen married Edward Newton MOORE at The Wesley Chapel, Dawlish, Devon.18,1
In the census of 25 April 1971 Kay was enumerated as the wife of Newton at 16 Third Avenue, Dawlish, Devon. Her daughter Teresa, with her husband David, were staying with them at that time, as they had just returned from Singapore and were visiting her mother.1
Kay and Newton were divorced in 1994 at Exeter, Devon.1 She was rehoused, and moved to 54 Linden Road, Dawlish, Devon.1

To celebrate her 80th birthday, on 24 July 2004, a family reunion was held at the business premises of her youngest son Robin. A newspaper article covering the event was published in the Dawlish Gazette on 4 August 2004.1,19

Kathleen suffered from Cancer in the last six months of her life. She died on 5 July 2011 at "Elland House", Hurley Common, Warwickshire, at the age of 86.1 She was cremated at 10:00 am on 8 July 2011 at Woodlands Cemetery and Crematorium, Birmingham Road, Coleshill, Warwickshire. Canon Stephen Mayes officiated the service.1 A Memorial Service was held at 12:00 noon on 15 July 2011 at Cofton Church, Starcross, Devon, and her ashes were interred in her husband's grave.1

Kay and her family are featured in an electronic photograph album included in Google Albums.20
