     George URIDGE was born on 9 June 1856 in Dartmouth Place, Lewisham, London.3,4,5 He was the son of George Frederick URIDGE and Ann Rebecca HARPER.4,3
In the census of 7 April 1861 at Russell Street, Sydenham, Kent, he was listed as the son of George URIDGE.4,6,2 In the census of 2 April 1871 at 4 Ebne Street, Sydenham, Kent, he was listed as a Milkboy, the son of George Frederick URIDGE.7,4 George URIDGE emigrated on 7 February 1874 to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia; on the ship "Nourmahal", departed London Feb 7, 1874 arrived in Brisbane May 28, 1874.8,4
He was named as a beneficiary in William URIDGE's will made on 20 June 1888.9

In a document dated c1905, he is referred to as "George Uridge went out to Sydney Australia about 20 years ago was born at Dartmouth Place Lewisham 9th June 1856 (certificate examined) is alive and lives in Bourke, New South Wales, Australia.10"

     William URIDGE was born in 1857 in Bromley, Kent.1,2 He was the son of Isaac URIDGE and Elizabeth OBBARD.
In the census of 3 April 1881 at 12 & 13 Market Square, Bromley, Kent, William was listed as the Head of Household; a Grocer, employing 4 men and 2 boys. He was living with his sister Emily URIDGE and brother James URIDGE.3
William married Minnie Jane WELLS, daughter of Thomas WELLS and Jane Susannah SUTTON, in 1885 in the Bromley registration district.4
In the census of 5 April 1891 at Thorndale, Newman Road, Bromley, Kent, William was listed as the Head of Household; a Grocer, living with his wife, three daughters and son. Also living with them were three servants - Isabella SCOTT, Kate YOUNG and Blanche E. SMITH.5
William died on 11 March 1895 in 3 Newman Road, Bromley, Kent.2,6 His estate was probated to his wife Minnie Jane URIDGE and George Edward WELLS grocer & Walter Edward THORP commercial traveller on 5 April 1895 at London.6
His wife, Minnie, died in 1946 in the Bromley registration district.7

Research Note: Sydney Herbert (William URIDGE's nephew) who was enumerated with Thomas' family in the 1851 census, was the son of George Wells, who sold the lease of Atlas House, to H.G. Well's parents & moved from Bromley to Greenwich.
In 1851 George was living at New Road Bromley a China & Glass Dealer with his wife Frances and son George Edward Wells (who was later involved with the will of Thomas WELLS, who died 1895.)8


Research Note: William and his brother Henry married sisters Marion and Minnie Jane WELLS who were second cousins to Herbert George WELLS (the famous author H.G. WELLS.)9

Kate Adele URIDGE was baptised on 21 October 1855 at Chailey, Sussex.4

He was listed in the census of 7 April 1861 at Bishopstone Agricultural Labourer's Cottage, Cuckfield, Sussex.5
In the census of 2 April 1871 at Lowfield Farm, Cuckfield, Sussex, he was listed as aged 10 born in Cuckfield, the son of William URIDGE.6,2
Henry married Mary Jane HOADLEY in 1884 in the Cuckfield registration district.7,3
In the census of 31 March 1901 at 4 Crescent Place, Keymer Urban, Burgess Hill, Sussex, Henry was listed as aged 40 born in Cuckfield, the Head of Household; a Drapers Manager, living with his wife Mary J., and children William A., Walter E., and Lilian M.8
In the census of 2 April 1911 at 4 Station Road Villas, Station Road, Burgess Hill, Sussex, Henry was listed as aged 50 born in Cuckfield, the Head of Household; a Drapery Manager living with his wife Mary Jane, and son William Arthur, and daughter Lillian May. Frank married Thirza COLLINS in 1893 in the Woolwich registration district.5
On January 1894, at the time of the birth of their son George, Frank and Thirza lived at 6 G Block, Cambridge Cottages, Woolwich, London. Frank was a Sergeant in the Royal Horse Artillery.6
Frank James URIDGE was the informant of the birth of his son, George Foster URIDGE, who was born on 3 January 1894 at the Female Hospital, Woolwich, London.7,8,6

James Isidore Uridge (1861-1925)
     James Isidore URIDGE was born in 1861 in Chailey, Sussex.1,2 He was the son of James URIDGE and Adele Victorine GIBBINS.3
James Isidore URIDGE was baptised on 12 January 1862 at Chailey, Sussex.3,4
He was listed in the census of 2 April 1871 at Bevern Bridge, Chailey, Sussex.5 In the census of 3 April 1881 at Bevern Bridge House, Chailey, Sussex, he was listed as a Coke Dealers Son, the son of Adele Victorine URIDGE.6,7
James married Mary Jane MARTIN, daughter of William MARTIN and Jane FLEET, in 1890 at Lewes, Sussex.8 Brother and Sister, James and Rose Pauline URIDGE, married brother and sister James and Mary Jane MARTIN.9,10
James and William MARTIN were in partnership in 1890 in the Ashley Avenue Windmill, Cheriton, Kent.11
In the census of 5 April 1891 at Ashley Cottages, Cheriton, Kent, James was listed as the Head of Household; a Miller, living with his wife.12 In the official records of Lewes Town Council, reference was made "Mr James Isidore URIDGE being appointed a Councillor for the Castle Ward [Lewes] without poll on 22nd November 1899 and of him being present at Council meeting on 2nd Jan 1901, 23rd Jan 1901, and 24th Jan 1901 - all meeting held in respect of the death of Queen Victoria."13,14
In the census of 31 March 1901 at "Wickham", Kings Henry's Road, St. Johns, Lewes, Sussex, she was a neighbour of his sister Eliza V. URIDGE; living with her brother and two servants.15 James was listed as aged 39, the Head of Household in the census of 31 March 1901 at "Downside", Kings Henry's Road, St. Johns, Lewes, Sussex, a retired Farmer and Corndealer, living with his wife, two sons and his niece and two servants.16 His uncle, Philip URIDGE's estate was probated to him on 12 February 1907 at Lewes, Sussex.17 James served in World War I between 1914 and 1918.18 In 1917, at the time of the death of his son Edgar, James Isidore URIDGE was serving in Salonika, Greece.19 James was in an undated portrait photograph possibly taken circa 1920 for his trip to America.20
James made a will dated 19 October 1920. He probably made the will just before he visited relatives in California.21,19 James travelled, on the "Adriatic", sailing from Southampton to Ellis Island, New York City, New York State, USA, arriving on 12 November 1920. The passenger record states he was married. He was probably visiting his two younger brothers who had emigrated to the US.22
James died on 13 July 1925 in Lewes, Sussex.23
The 1925 Will index shows: "URIDGE James Isidore of Downside King Henry's Road Lewes Died 13 July 1925 Probate Lewes 10 August to Mary Jane URIDGE widow & Albert John Richard URIDGE gentleman Effects £ 2,635 0s 3d.19 "
His estate was probated to Mary Jane MARTIN and Albert John Richard URIDGE on 10 August 1925 in the Lewes, Sussex.21

In the census of 3 April 1881 at 4 Newman Road, Bromley, Kent, she was listed as aged 18 born in Bromley, the daughter of Elizabeth URIDGE.2

     Henry John URIDGE was born on 8 September 1863 in Lindfield, Sussex.1,2,3 He was the son of Henry URIDGE and Elizabeth STANFORD.4 He was baptised on 22 November 1863 at Lindfield, Sussex.4
Henry married Mary Ann TAYLOR in 1893 in the Cuckfield registration district.5
His mother's, Elizabeth URIDGE, estate was probated to him on 13 March 1901 in Lewes, Sussex.6
In the census of 31 March 1901 at Public Hall, Haywards Heath, Sussex, Henry was listed as the Head of Household; a grocer, living with his wife, two children, grandmother (wife's), his sister and a servant.3

J. Uridge of Medway Stock Farm, Fresno, California; on the ship "Oceanic", departing from Southampton and arriving at Ellis Island on 5 June 1912. On the ships manifest it stated that they were father and son, going to their cousin W. J. Uridge of Medway Stock Farm, Fresno, California. Henry's occupation was given as a Grocer. Their nearest relative was given as Mrs Uridge, Highcroft, Haywards Road, Haywards Heath.18,19
In 1912, William lived at Medway Stock Farm, Fresno, Fresno County, California, USA.18 He was issued a US passport on 30 January 1917. At the time he was residing at San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, USA. He was travelling to England on the "Adriatic", leaving New York on February 1, 1917 to deal with the settlement of estate.2 William travelled on the "Adriatic", a US citizen, sailing from Liverpool to New York City, New York State, USA, arriving on 25 April 1917 .10 William died, whilst visiting from California, on 14 December 1937 at Chailey, Sussex, at age 74.20,11,3,21 He was buried in 1937 at St. Peter's Church, Chailey, Sussex.11,3

     Elizabeth URIDGE was born on 27 May 1865 in Lindfield, Sussex.2,3,4 She was the daughter of Henry URIDGE and Elizabeth STANFORD.5,6
Elizabeth URIDGE was baptised on 26 July 1865 at Lindfield, Sussex.5
Elizabeth married Roland LUGAR in 1896 in Hampstead, London.7,8,6
In the census of 31 March 1901 at Public Hall, Haywards Heath, Sussex, she was listed as the sister of Henry John URIDGE; a grocer, living with his wife, two children, grandmother (wife's), his sister and a servant.4
In the census of 2 April 1911 at Carfax House, Sussex Road, Haywards Heath, Sussex, she was listed as aged 44 born in Lindfield, an Assistant Housekeeper, married 15 years with no children, the sister of Henry John URIDGE.9 In 1912, Elizabeth emigrated to Fresno, Fresno County, California, USA, on the ship "SS Celtic", departing from Liverpool and arriving at Ellis Island on 2 November 1912. On the ships manifest it stated that she was going to her brother H. Uridge in 1528 High Street, Fresno, California.
Her occupation was given as a housewife. Her nearest relative was given as Mr Hide, "Conway", Haywards Road, Haywards Heath. Click to view picture of the SS Celtic10 Elizabeth was described as 5' 5", fair complexion with brown hair and blue eyes.10
Elizabeth died on 1 May 1950 in Fresno, Fresno County, California, USA, at the age of 84.6

     Walter George URIDGE was born in in 1865 in Chailey, Sussex.2,3,4 He was the son of James URIDGE and Adele Victorine GIBBINS.5
Walter George URIDGE was baptised on 10 September 1865 at Chailey, Sussex.5
He was listed in the census of 2 April 1871 at Bevern Bridge, Chailey, Sussex.6 In the census of 3 April 1881 at Bevern Bridge House, Chailey, Sussex, he was listed as a Grocers Assistant, the son of Adele Victorine URIDGE.7,3 Walter George URIDGE emigrated in 1881 to California, USA, and was naturalized in 1904.8,9,10
Walter married Ethel MOTT, daughter of Rev. William Lucas MOTT and Mary Caroline KELLEY, on 29 December 1893 in Fresno, Fresno County, California, USA.11,12
Walter married Margaret Elizabeth NOCK, daughter of (?) NOCK and (?) PROCTOR, in 1898.13,11
Walter was one of the vestry and founders of the St. James Mission (Episcopal Church) in Fresno, Fresno County, California, USA.14
In the census of 1910 at Township 4, Fresno County, California, USA, Walter was listed as aged 45 born in England, the Head of Household.15 In the census of 1910 he was a neighbour of his cousin Albert W. URIDGE.16
In the census of 1 January 1920 at Washington, Fresno, Fresno County, California, USA, Walter was listed as aged 54 born in England, the Head of Household; a Stock & Dairy Farmer, living with his wife Margaret E., and children Frances C., Harold G., Margaret A., Dorothy S., and Thomas F.10 He was a neighbour of his cousin Albert W. URIDGE.10 Also he was a neighbour of his son Douglas URIDGE.10
Walter died in 1935.13,17
In the family history book by Mildred A. Olsen, she writes about Walter URIDGE: "The MOTTs heartily disapproved of Walter URIDGE as a husband because he was British! Grandpa MOTT was mostly French, from Philadelphia. That didn't count with the MOTTs of course. Grandma was a Kelley, from Boston, so that's what they all were.18

Research Note: In the 1920 census, it states that he immigrated in 1888, and naturalized in 1904. This needs to be clarified, as the family say that he immigrated in 1881.10

In the census of 3 April 1881 at Lowfield Farm, Cuckfield, Sussex, he was listed as the son of William URIDGE; a farmer of 267 acres, employing 8 labourers and 2 boys, living with his wife Mary, and four sons and three daughters.4
William married Kate Augusta W. LEWRY in 1894 in the Portsea registration district.6,7
